The Boy Least Likely To - charlie

BoyLeast.jpg

This has got to be the happiest music I’ve ever heard in my life.  Downright childish sounding at first, I’ll admit, but listen to the lyrics and all of a sudden you realize that this music is meant for adults.  They’re not vulgar lyrics, but they speak from a bittersweet perspective, often using childlike motifs to get across a darker point.  Musically though, it’s like candy.  Very British candy.

They’re 2005 debut album (with an awesome name), The Best Party Ever, was recorded in the English countryside on a dusty 8-track, and the warmth of that setting really translates to the recording.  They make kitschy use of various instruments, but they never overcome the semi-falsetto crooning of the lead singer.  They have a new album coming out, aptly called Second Album and they’re giving their single out for free:

I Box Up All The Butterflies

Hugging My Grudge

Be Gentle With Me
