Christian Scott - charlie

1626.jpg

Modern Jazz is something that makes most people cringe, right? (Kenny G, John Tesh, etc.)  Well, there’s hope.  Christian Scott is a jazz trumpeter known for is warm tone and spacey, sometimes ominous arrangements.  But this isn’t smooth, and this isn’t electronic.  The space you feel is physical, the tone you hear is natural.  Scott graduated from Berkley in 2004, and almost immediately he made his mark.  His most recent album, Anthem, was inspired by Scott’s hometown connection with Katrina.  Indeed, this is a truly dark album for jazz.  Props to David Dragan for the heads up on this one.
