Hockey Night - will

Just recently I’ve come across Hockey Night and I’m very interested in them.  Hailing from St. Paul, MInnesota, this quartet is made up of two drummers and two guitarists, yet the music doesn’t reflect this make up.  They sound like a mix of Dinosaur Jr. and The Velvet Underground - both of which don’t have a large drumming / guitar sound.  

And the thing is they are good - damn good at that. Tight, sparse guitar hooks with catchy melodies - wait…that sounds like most descriptions of indie pop/rock bands.  Sorry about that.  But what sets the apart from this description are their clear homages to The Velvet G. and Thin Lizzy.  

With this combination you would think they would be on their way, well like most indie pop/rock bands with the explanation of “Tight, sparse guitar hooks with catchy melodies” crashed.  A couple years ago they surprisingly broke up.  I lament.  

Either way the tunes they left with us are great for the summer.
