Shut Up, Al Green*, Vol. 1 - matt
For about a month and a half now, I’ve been secretly stockpiling AMAZING soul singles from all corners of the internet. I’m doing this because last month I visited Charlie at KU, saw his friend Brian DJ and said to myself: maybe this is something you’d be good at too.
Charlie could probably explain this better, but the music I choose straddles the line between soul and rock - “Sock”, if you will. Basically you’ll hear funky rhythms, catchy guitar hooks; ANYTHING you can move to. But it’s all feel good music. I’ve mostly been canvassing the years 1968-1971 and have produced some amazing results. So far I’ve discovered around 90 or so singles that meet muster, having created about 5 playlists meticulously (read: obsessively) ordered for your dancing and listening pleasure. Really, all I want is for people to get drunk and stoned and dance to this shit. Because that’s what I do…
I won’t post the entire playlists (e-mail me privately if you’d like to hear more), so I’ll post some highlights over the coming weeks from my selections.
That’s all - no more talk. I’ll let these speak for themselves:
Can’t Seem To Make You Mine - The Seeds
Your Love Has Brought Me (A Mighty Long Way) - Jackie Avery
Some Kind of Wonderful - Soul Brothers Six
I Want To Hold Your Hand - Al Green*
I Thank You - Sam & Dave
You Are My Sunshine - Dyke & The Blazers
