Hello there, it’s been a while - I’m here to start your wednesday morning right with The Stooges.
In my opinion Raw Power represents everything that’s great about this band: snarl, driving guitar riffs that make you want to fist pump until dawn, attitude, angst, pounding drums, all ultimately condensing into an aural overdose that makes you collapse on the floor in a puddle of your bodily fluids. This is just fun cocaine rock. The rest of their catalogue is worth a look too: the albums The Stooges and Fun House, while not for everyone, are reminiscent of a harder-rocking version of The Doors at times.
One thing is clear though: Iggy and the Stooges drive it home, often times in excess, which is exactly the point of this sort of music. The song titles on this album are hilarious: “Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell,” “Penetration,” “Death Trip”; these guys don’t fuck around. I consider this album an essential.
