Colin Blunstone- charlie

Colin Blunstone is the kind of guy you never really consider. Not only is his solo work seriously overlooked, but the most mainstream he ever got was with The Zombies and The Alan Parson’s Project. Blunstone’s wistful, airy voice also lends itself to easy passovers. You have to get quiet to get this music, and it took a long and boring car ride back to Chicago for me to finally listen to his first solo album all the way through.
I listened to One Year three times in a row. It’s simply a masterpiece, juggling multiple genres simultaneously while retaining an irreplaceable uniqueness all its own. Blunstone is soulful (She Loves The Way They Love Her), jazzy (Caroline Goodbye), melancholy (Smokey Day), and downright theatrical (Say You Don’t Mind), all within the same album. He utilizes a full orchestra in a beautifully tasteful manner, providing arrangements that are as intricate as they are accessible. Lay on that Blunstone’s sophisticated songwriting and pitch-perfect voice and One Year unfolds like a finely crafted novel. I’ve never heard anything quite like this, but I sure want more.
