If you already aren’t an enormous fan of The Band, Martin Scorsese is here to help.  After all, he did make the best music dvd of all time, about The Band’s final concert after 16 years on the road.  You need to watch this film.  The Band started out as the backing band for rockabilly artist Ronnie Hawkins.  Bob Dylan recruited them for a tour and some recordings (where everyone just referred to them as “the band”), but even before that, for only a few 45’s worth of music, they were Levon and the Hawks, and the Canadian Squires.  Bluesy, catchy, gritty, but surprisingly mature - see how much these are worth now.
