Levon and The Hawks + Canadian Squires - charlie

If you already aren’t an enormous fan of The Band, Martin Scorsese is here to help. After all, he did make the best music dvd of all time, about The Band’s final concert after 16 years on the road. You need to watch this film. The Band started out as the backing band for rockabilly artist Ronnie Hawkins. Bob Dylan recruited them for a tour and some recordings (where everyone just referred to them as “the band”), but even before that, for only a few 45’s worth of music, they were Levon and the Hawks, and the Canadian Squires. Bluesy, catchy, gritty, but surprisingly mature - see how much these are worth now.
Levon and The Hawks - He Don’t Love You
Levon and The Hawks - The Stones I Throw
The Canadian Squires - Leave Me Alone
The Canadian Squires - Uh Uh Uh

Pink Floyd - Theo
CAUTION: If you get visual or motion sickness from seeing one of the coolest things ever, then you shouldn’t watch this. (But do it anyway) This is Pink Floyd performing live Comfortably Numb and not only is it an incredible song, especially live, it is one of the coolest lighting effects displays I have seen.

Santana - Theo

Carlos Santana is an unbelievable guitarist and his band produces sweet spanish grooves that you can’t stop moving to. The first of these tasty tracks that I am providing is Santana Live at the Crossroads guitar festival in 2004 playing Jin-Go-Lo-Ba with Eric Clapton. You’re body will not survive this song, so take whatever precautions needed. The next couple of tracks are from different albums the band has produced.

Santogold - will
I don’t why Santogold’s new album is so great. Maybe it’s the unique blend of punk, new wave, reggae and r&b that catches me just right. Plus she can lay down some catchy hooks.
Either way, Brooklyn’s Santi White is blowing up right now with her new album. To further clarify, here’s how Rolling Stone put it….

Jamie Lidell - will
Jamie Lidell. Yeah. If your feet don’t move with these tunes, then you’re dead. I’ve loved Jamie’s 2005 album Multiply ever since it came out. Worn it into the ground even. And I can’t stop listening to these tunes off his new album Jim.
Blue eyed soul is the genre he gets put in - but, damn. He’s got all soul. Stevie, Al, James, Jamir - he channels them all. Pop these on the pod and have a great weekend. Oh, and I practically posted this whole album.

Kelley Stoltz - will
I just recently started listing to Kelley Stoltz. His new album Circular Sounds released on Sub Pop is pretty catchy. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was one of those albums that grows on you after a few listens. I caught myself humming a few tunes today, so I figured it warranted a post. Flashes of Velvet Underground come through in his tunes as well as a full appreciation for the 60’s garage rock sound.

Memory Collector - Kelley Stoltz

My Morning Jacket - will
New My Morning Jacket? Yes, please. If this is any indication of what the rest of album will be like then we’re in for probably the best album of the year. Yeah, I said it.
